When I started this blog it was my intention to use it at a forum to talk about dining out, especially in Edmonton. However sometimes the events of life change our intentions and give us pause for thought. With that in mind I write about dining out for a totally different reason.
There are many reasons to go out to eat. One of them is to gather people who have interests in common to meet. Tonight was such an occasion. We met to celebrate life in honour of the loss of friend and co-worker. We celebrate because that is what she would have wanted. She wasn't someone who liked being the center of attention, but she did enjoy a good glass of wine and great food. So we went out to eat to her favorite restaurant, and raised a glass in her honour.
It wasn't a night of tears although there were emotions. It wasn't a night of mourning although everyone feels her absense. It was instead a celebration of her life, of having known her. Even she would have liked that.
She would also have liked that she was the cause of us all to reconnect. When you work together there is necessity to get the job done first. That goes without saying, but when a small group of people are together as much as co-workers are it is important to keep a personal connection. Often it is an event such as this loss that bring that awareness to the forefront.
So in that spirit, we raise a glass to you, our friend. We are honoured to have known you and will keep your spirit in our hearts.
